A Book and a Game a Day: January 2020 Challenge

A fellow homeschool mom issued a challenge to read a book and play a game every day of January. It is meant as a gentle way to ease back into a homeschool schedule. I need the encouragement to play more games with Nathaniel. Since books and games are such great opporutnities for connection and communication, each night I’m going to identify core AAC words that I can model on Nathaniel communication device while we spend time together. Often month long challenges are super fun in the beginning, but then real life creeps in and enthusiasm wanes. Hopefully that won’t happen. I plan for this to be a growing post with new content added through out the month of what we read and played together.

January 1:
Book: Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site: https://amzn.to/2tqIux9
Game: Tap Tap Game Vehicles: https://amzn.to/2MP10Gt

January 2:
Book: If You Give a Pig a Pancake https://amzn.to/2torkQS
Game: Pancake Pile-Up https://amzn.to/36hahio

January 3:
Book: Harold and the Purple Crayon https://amzn.to/39D5aes
Game: Tic-Tac-Toe https://amzn.to/2sMh7xA
Note: I bought our wood Tic-Tac-Toe at the Target Dollar Spot years ago. I suggest this Melissa and Doug set if you would like to get a wood version; their products are predictably good. But paper and a purple crayon works too!

January 4
Book: Rooster's Off to See the World https://amzn.to/2sDW1Sj
Game: Count Your Chickens https://amzn.to/39H9s4w

January 5:
Book: Whose Poop Is That? https://amzn.to/2uiSwAZ
Game: Don't Step In It https://amzn.to/2MWRbGy

Note: One of my word choices for the book is +S. I chose to make the word WHOSE by adding an S to WHO. Nathaniel is just starting to explore possessives. I wanted to reinforce the use of +S on his device rather than introduce the new word WHOSE.

January 6
Book: I Like It When https://amzn.to/35vH1D6
Game: Don't Rock the Boat https://amzn.to/36v1zgu

Book: Have You Seen My Dragon https://amzn.to/2sMiIUt
Game: Dragon's Breath https://amzn.to/2QS58Xq
